Equidem’s South Asia Director, Rameshwar Nepal, was a guest on Ujyaalo radio network’s popular weekly radio program Desh Pardesh. Over 15 million people from Nepal, wider South Asia and the Middle East tune in to the program that broadcasts practical rights-based information for migrant workers and their families.

“I was introduced as one of the leading migrant rights experts in Nepal by the interviewer.” Rameshwar said, “They wanted my opinion about the conditions faced by Nepalese migrant workers and possible solutions to make migration safe and secure for workers.”

On the program, Rameshwar highlighted the Nepali government's failure to implement existing laws, and the absence of effective monitoring mechanisms to regulate recruitment agencies. Rameshwar Nepal was also asked about the functioning of a newly appointed government task force (on which Rameshwar is a member), scheduled to present a report later this year on steps to make foreign employment safe, dignified and decent for Nepalese migrant workers.

Ujyaalo is one of the largest Radio Networks of Nepal with more than 220 partner radio stations across the country. Due to the rough terrain, many areas in Nepal still have no access to television or newspapers and the radio helps bridge that gap and provide individuals and families with the latest news and information.
